set just outside the mansion. a little short, getting used to her :3

Cambria's little mouth opened wide in a yawn and she blinked sleepily. It was so nice and warm outside! The chocolate pup had settled down in the grass just outside the mansion. She felt confident enough to venture outside on her own, but not very far. It felt like she was snuggled up in a little green nest and it was so comfortable it was making her sleepy. Somewhat lazily she watched as a robin hopped around pecking at the ground for worms. It didn't seem like it was having much luck though. She liked birds. They were nice to watch and they made pretty noises.

The small girl wondered where the rest of her family was. Momma probably had pack stuff to do. It seemed as they got older the more time she spent away having to do stuff. Though she was always there at night when they all went to sleep. Daddy was sitting around somewhere reading or something. For a moment she considering going to find her father, but she was too comfortable to get up. Plus she was feeling so tired! Her head laid down to rest on her oversized paws and her brown lids began to droop over her eyes. Maybe it was a good time for an afternoon nap.

Mine will be a little short as well—I’ve never played a puppy before, ^=^;; Excuse the crappy puppy talk... Just pretend that it’s good, haha >__>

The little pup stood at the mansion door, her joints locked as those dual eyes, one blue and one green, looked out at the strange bright place. Her stubby little tail wagged lightly but fanatically behind her. She was brimming with excitement that was as bright as the sun of these outdoors. She had been here before with mamma, but she was somewhere else today. And of course her curiosity simply pulled in all directions. The cream pup was a little apprehensive as she stood there, conflicted by her excitement and by a wariness. Last time she had wandered far from mamma, something big had pounced on her—it wasn’t very nice at all. But... it wouldn’t hurt to go outside if she stayed within sight of the mansion. And besides, Amata could smell her sister nearby. And sisters should be together. With that in mind, the small puppy bounded away, her steps still slightly awkward with youth.

There she was! The darker form of her sister was nestled in the grass. With those small ears perked forward, the puppy trotted with that bouncy gait. "Cambi!" the tiny voice exclaimed, unable to pronounce that difficult name. "I founds yew!" She smiled happily as she pounced on her sister with a soft squeak, surely interrupting that sun induced nap. "Whatcha doin’ ou’ he-ah?" With her paws draped over the chocolate pup’s back, her tail wagged happily. It was a good think that she had found her. Now no one would be lost because everyone was together. The small black nose was pushed into the other’s fur before she nipped playfully at Cambria’s ear, practically forgetting the question that had been asked. It was fun to play and the sun was warm. Absently, with a bright curiosity, the girl watched a passing butterfly. They were so pretty.

The puppy talk is great! ^^

Her dark fur absorbed the sunlight, making her feel like she was cuddled up next to her parents. In fact that's the very image that came to mind as her eyes closed and her mind was drifting off. She imagined her mother, so beautiful and strong. Her father, so handsome and kind. She loved her parents. The girl wouldn't change a single thing about either of them. But then the images changed and she was outside again. But it wasn't the same as she had seen before her eyes had closed. The air was filled with butterflies! They were everywhere she looked and they landed lightly on her nose and ears and she giggled happily. She loved butterflies. They were her most favorite thing.

The pup thought she heard someone call her name, but it wasn't very loud. Though it quickly became real as she felt something pounce on her. Ocean colored eyes flew open, panicked and she yelped. What was going on? Was she being attacked? How could that be?! She was just outside home and that was safe! But then her sister's voice hit her ears and her tiny body relaxed. "Amatas! You scawed mes!" Her bottom lip stuck out as she turned to look at her creamy sibling. "I dunnos. I was jus' watchin' da birdies an' stuffs." Cambria liked to play too, but she also liked to just relax and watch things. Sharp little teeth nipped at her ear and she squirmed under her sister's weight. She managed to roll onto her back and pushed at her with her front paws. Then she caught sight of the same butterfly and was instantly distracted. "I loves butterfwies."

Panic seemed to take a hold of her sister, and her yelps were in her ears. For a moment, the creamy pup was startled, instinctively responding to that alerting sound. The blue and green eyes grew wide as she stiffened, but then her sister’s eyes opened, and she realized that it was she that had startled the chocolate pup. "Ahm sawwies," the puppy replied with a silly smile, her pink tongue lolling out as she panted. She hoped that her sister would forgive her—she didn’t like it when her sister was sad with her lip sticking out. The stubby tail wagged happily behind her. She liked being with her sister. "That sounds like funs," she replied, as her eyes momentarily looked up at the warm, bright world where everything towered above them. But she felt safe here, as if the flowers watched over them with smiling faces. Looking back to Cambria, she let out a bubbly giggle.

Amata gave a little growling squeal of joy as her sister rolled beneath her. Those puppy instincts disguised in play clicked instantly as she struggled to hold her sister beneath her, though she was not consciously seeking to subdue her. But she was forced up by Cambria’s paws, and she fell back, flopping to the ground with a playful squeak. Sitting up, the dual coloured eyes watched the butterfly. "Mes too!" she said excitedly. There was a brief silence that followed as she watched the thing fly crazily around the flowers. "Heys!" she exclaimed suddenly as if a great idea had suddenly come to mind. "Wes should catch it! Then maybes wes can show mamma!" It all seemed like a great idea, and something easily feasible. Without a second thought, the creamy girl bounded up after it, jumping up to try and grip it with both her paws and her mouth.

It was impossible to stay mad or be upset with her sister. She knew that Amata didn't have a mean bone in her body, all she wanted to do was to play and have fun with her. Besides Cambria really wasn't the type to get mad about anything. She was very passive and would rather run to the shelter and protection of her parents than confront anybody. "Is okies," she said smiling back at her sister and her little brown tail wagged in unison. "Yahs! I wikes it. Is all so preddy." She liked pretty things. And she wasn't afraid to be outside right here. She was confident that nothing bad could happen to her in the shadow of the mansion. It was one of her rocks in this bright new world that could be so uncertain.

Amata was always good at winning wrestling games, so when she was able to shove her sister off she felt a sense of accomplishment. The chocolate pup rolled back onto her feet and giggled at the sight of her toppled over sibling. The girl's eyes locked onto the butterfly. She wondered what it must feel like to be able to float through the air like that. It must be pretty fun, but the butterflies were so light they could be carried away on the breeze. That thought scared the girl and she quickly pushed it from her mind. This was the only place she wanted to be. Her sister's exclamation snapped her out of her reverie and she turned to her. Cambria's unique eyes lit up at the suggestion. "Thas a gweat idears Amatas!" Giggling she bounded after her sister and follow suit jumping up to try and grab the insect. Wouldn't momma be so proud and happy if they brought her the butterfly?

The creamy pup was glad that her sister had decided to forgive her. She wagged her tail. Amata loved her sister, and she loved to play with her. And today was a good day for playing, she had decided. Even though wet weather was fun, she could get dirty and momma would have to clean her. But today was dry and warm and sunny, and she was with Cambria. Puppy growls and yips jumped through the air as she rolled around in the grass, listening to the little bugs that were smaller even than her scatter and fly away. But the butterfly flew silently with its pretty wings. She wondered how a butterfly got such pretty wings. She wondered how butterflies and birds flew, and she wanted to fly too.

"I knows," the little pup said proudly as if she had accomplished some great philosophical feat. And then bounding about she was joined by Cambria. Amata was so absorbed by the colourful, flying insect that she bumped into her sister. "Hah hah!" she laughed as she fell to the soft, grassy ground, rolling over immediately to continue the chase. The butter fly was getting away, and the girl was determined to catch it for her mother. "Come ons, Cambi," she urged excitedly. Then, jumping up, the creamy pup caught the butterfly in her mouth, chomping unrestrainedly upon the black body of the insect. Of course it didn’t occur to the puppy that the butterfly was dead—death was not yet a recognizable entity within her mind and so did not exist. It was simply an unmoving trophy. "’ook!" Then setting the butterfly down at her paws, the blue and green eyes looked down at it. "We caughts it!" Her tail wagged happily behind her. And then she just kept staring at it, unsure of what to do but happy that the butterfly had been caught.

That's really strange o.o I'll ask for it to be modified. 300+

Cambria was glad that today was the day that she and Amata got to play outside and not on a rainy day. Amata didn't mind getting dirty, but Cambria didn't much care for it. She liked to stay clean (even though on her fur, mud barely even showed). If she had the pretty cream coat her sister had she wouldn't want to get it all muddy and gross. And while it was plenty warm today, sometimes when it rained it was cold and it would make her shiver if she got too wet. And then she would track mud and water inside the house and she felt bad having her momma or daddy have to clean up her mess. Warm, dry and clean was much better than cold, wet and dirty in her opinion.

Both pups were too preoccupied with their quest to worry about where they were stepping. As they bumped into each other Cambria giggled. Tiny little body rolled in the grass and the flowers. This was so much fun! Already her sister had recovered from her tumble and was after their goal again. Awkwardly the chocolate girl rolled back to her feet and raced as fast as her little legs would take her. "I's commin's!" Just as she was catching up she saw her sister jump higher than she'd ever seen her jump before and catch the butterfly in her mouth. A happy squeak issued from the pup and her tail wagged excitedly. "Yous dids it Amatas! You caughts da butterfwie!" Panting she sat in front of her light sibling and watched as their prize was put on the ground between them. Concern leaked into her eyes as she saw that the insect was no longer moving. What was wrong with it? Was it okay? "Amatas why's it not movings?"

The small pup proudly wagged her stubby tail, her back warmed by the golden sunlight of the day. With the butterfly having been caught, the girl felt as if the day were complete—it was a pretty good day. Now they could show mamma, and dadda also, the pretty butterfly. A pink tongue lolled out as those dual coloured eyes watched the still insect at her feet before she looked at Cambria who sat down. But her sister didn’t look so pleased suddenly. The frantic wagging of her tail slowed down as her puppy’s mouth closed, her head tilting in question. Amata thought that it had been a good thing.... Slowly she considered the insect again—its colours were so bright and pretty. She wanted to touch it with her nose. The creamy girl’s muzzle sniffed noisily as she lowered it to the bug, but before she could touch it, her sister was talking.

Why wasn’t it moving indeed. It hadn’t seemed wrong before, but now that Cambria mentioned it, Amata thought that it may be unnatural. "I don’ knoes," the puppy said quietly, her head tilting to the left and then to the right as she stared down at the butterfly. "Maybes its sleeping ors scard," she though aloud. But her tail wagged again as she looked at her sister, that bright smile on her face. "Where’s Mamma?" She wanted to show her pretty momma what both of them had caught: something that was also pretty. Amata sat down in front of Cambria and the butterfly, lowering her black nose to nudge the allegedly sleeping bug. It wasn’t scary like a spider, or mean like a bee. It was just nice and pretty and sleeping. And the butterfly was so soft under her nose, like a flower petal. "Touches it, Cambi! Its sawft."

Bah, it doesn't matter! I do too sometimes <3 Also if we want I could have Savina pop in and explain not to touch delicate insects or they stop moving forever XD

Something just didn't seem right about it not moving. It had moved plenty before they caught it. Floating in the breeze, it's pretty wings fluttering. Somehow it wasn't as pretty now. It looked kinda sad. Amata didn't notice until she said something, but then she noticed it too. Though even then her sister didn't seem quite as concerned as the little Marino girl felt. At the suggestion that it was scared or sleeping she nodded her head. "I guesses that coulds be eets." Though that still wasn't very good. At least the scared part. Cambria knew what it was like to be scared. It wasn't a good feeling at all and she didn't want to poor little butterfly to be scared. She leaned down to the still insect and spoke softly. "Is okies butterfwie, dun be scaweds. Wes dun wantsta hurts yous." They really didn't.

At the question about their mother the pup looked over either side of her shoulder, as if magically their momma would know they wanted to show her something and would appear. She wasn't there though. "I dunnos. Is hard to knoes wheres she is sometimes." After all their momma was the second-in-command of the whole wide pack. She had lots of stuff to do to keep everyone safe and happy. Cambria liked that about their momma though. She was always doing something to make them happy and secure, even when she wasn't right with them. Her head cocked to the side as her sister said the bug was soft. Gently she brought her own tiny nose to the prone butterfly and nudged it. It was soft! "Woahs! Its is vewy softs!" Much softer than she had thought it would be!

"It has to bes," the sister assured with a solemn nod. And it had to be because the insect had been moving only moments before. What else could explain this strange stillness if not for fear or tiredness? The pup’s logic was flawless in her mind. She felt very smart having thought it all through in such a way. When Cambria leaned down closer, Amata did the same, although her body lingered higher than her sister’s body. The creamy girl nodded in agreement. "Yeah," she assured the unmoving butterfly. "Wes not hurts yous!" Those dual coloured eyes watched the colourful, winged bug intently, mesmerized by its strange shape and colours. And the sunlight made the colours brighter and better to look at. The puppy wagged her tail as if to show the bug that they were not going to hurt it, but still the butterfly did not move.

"Yeah," the girl agreed quietly. She loved her mamma so much and she was so proud of her. The creamy pup was still in that stage of life in which both parents were invincible protectors of the world and of her and her sister and her brother, and the image was reinforced by their mamma’s rank within the pack. The cream tail wagged happily behind her, moving the grass as she sat there. "Dons worries—wes finds her laters." Amata grinned at Cambria, those white puppy teeth exposed in that toothy green. With her soft puppy panting, the sister watched the chocolate pup touch the unmoving butterfly with her nose. She giggled loudly. "I knoes!" With that squeaky exclamation, Amata sprung up, bounding around in a random polygon before she returned to stand before the butterfly. "Sees, butterfwy?" the pup said as she looked down. "Wes bes yo’ fwiend!" Their wet noses had touched the soft butterfly gently, so they could be friends now.

Poor puppies that don't understand they can't snap at bugs and have them live XD

Cambria nodded her head at her sister. Amata was really smart, so she had to be right about the bug. Maybe it had gotten stunned or something when her sister caught it. Yeah. That had to be it. It would wake up soon and then they could all play together and everything would be great! She couldn't wait for the butterfly to wake up! Her little tail began to wag again. She hoped the butterfly would understand them. That they just wanted to play with her and didn't want to hurt her. She'd decided that the bug had to be a she. It was so pretty there was no way it could be a guy. But she had never seen any butterflies that looked like boys. Were there any? Or were they all girls? That puzzled the pup. "I tink is a girls, dun' yous? A guys wouldn' be so preddy wights?" It seemed like perfect logic to her. Girls were pretty and guys were handsome and the butterfly was definitely pretty instead of handsome.

The Marino child nodded her head again. "Yahs, we finds her later. We shoulds tells butterfwie aboots momma!" Then maybe it would get excited about meeting their mother and wake up and move around again! Cambria laughed as Amata ran around in a circly thing. Her sister's energy was infectious. The pup yipped excitedly at her sister's proclamation of friendship to the butterfly. "Yahs butterfwie! We's wants ta be yer fwiends! An' we's wants ya to meets our momma!" She bounced a little bit on the toes of her large feet. "You'll loves our momma butterfwie, just like we does! She's so pretty an' smarts an' nices an' evewyting good!" It was impossible to not like their mother!

Savina had left early in the morning to take care of her pack duties. Usually she was not one to rise so early, but motherhood had changed her sleeping schedule. Instead of staying up into the late hours of the night she went to sleep when her children did. She also woke either with them or before them depending on the day. But when she had duties outside the house to attend to she preferred to rise before the pups. The disappointed looks on their faces when they knew she was going out and they couldn't come with was too much for her to bear. It was becoming a more common occurrence now that they were older. She had been lucky enough to avoid most of her responsibilities until now however.

Her patrol of the borders was finished for the day. It was becoming a longer and longer duty with the more land they claimed, but she didn't complain. The last stretch they had taken over lead down to the ocean, something she greatly treasured. Once the children were a little older she really wanted to take the whole family down to the secluded little beach in their lands and have a picnic. It would be a nice little escape for them all. Lithe limbs carried the Lt. General back in the direction of the house when she heard two little voices talking excitedly about something. Instantly she recognized the owners as her two beautiful daughters. A broad smile flowered on her muzzle and she walked over to the two pups. "And what is it that my two little figlie are up to?"

The creamy sister shook her head—this butterfly couldn’t be a boy! Cambria had some sound logic there. "Yous wights—it hastabe a girl!" Amata greed with vigorous nods. The butterfly was pretty like the two sisters, not handsome like Gotham or Dadda. With her tail wagging, the dual eyes watched her sister—Cambria was always so thoughtful. It would be nice to tell the pretty bug about their pretty momma. Of course the chocolate girl got a head start on telling, and Amata reinforced those very true words with happy nods and small barks of approval. "Yous wikes our mamma," she said with a certainty to the still unmoving butterfly. "And yous pwetties too!" Maybe a nice and sincere compliment would help wake the butterfly and make her feel at home. They were friends now, after all, and, even though the two had just met, Amata loved the butterfly in a way that girls loved their friends.

A familiar, comfortable voice rose up behind them. "Mamma!" the creamy girl squeaked as she turned and ran to her mother. Her puppy movements were still very jerky as she bounded her way over, bumping her head on her mothers pretty legs. As she rolled over and stood up on her hind legs, her front paws leaning on Savina’s legs, she said, "Wes making fwiends and wes tell her about yous!" Her tail wagged furiously as she bounded away, yipping happily and returning to the unmoving butterfly. It must be scared now because her mamma was so much taller. "Iz okay," the girl whispered before looking back at the black adult. "Shes scawred still," the creamy pup explained matter-of-factly. And how nice it was that their mamma had come—now the butterfly and momma could be friends too.

Cambria smiled broadly at her sister, her tail wagging. She had thought of something smart! Usually Amata came to all the conclusions first, but this time it had been her! And her sister was proud of her! She emitted a happy little bark and her chest puffed out. The pup didn't often feel particularly accomplished or proud of anything she did, so when it did happen it was cause for her to be happy about it and show it. Now she desperately wanted to find a guy butterfly. They had to be out there somewhere, she just hadn't looked hard enough surely. What a great idea! The small girl hadn't thought to compliment the pretty butterfly. Compliments made everyone feel better! "Yahs you is! Soooo preddies!" It was true too! It was the prettiest butterfly that the pup had ever seen!

She and her sister had been so involved talking to their new butterfly friend that she hadn't heard anyone come up behind them. But when their mother's soft voice came to her ears her eyes lit up. "Mommy!" Her mouth opened in an even bigger smile, her pink tongue hanging out. She bounded after her sibling to greet their mother. She had shown up faster than she had hoped! As she reached their mother Cambria rubbed her head affectionately against her leg. "Yah mommas! We tells her how preddy an' smarts an' nices you is!" Then Amata moved back to where they had left their butterfly. Had it woken up yet. Cambria scrambled after her sister. It had not, but hopefully it would soon. "Is okies butterfwies, momma jus wantsta be your fwiend toos!" She looked back to her mother. "Comes sees our new fwiends!"

The mother couldn't help but laugh lightly at the excited greeting from her children. There were few things in this world more delightful than being welcomed home by your own pups. As they ran up to her she leaned her head down, giving both of them a lick on the top of their heads. "Hello my two beautiful girls," she said nuzzling her muzzled against their small forms, her tail waving in the background. "A new friend?" That was odd, she hadn't seen any other pups. Her eyes scanned the area again, but found that there was no one else in sight. What were they making friends with she wondered. It seemed that question would be answered quickly as the two of them bounced back to where they had been sitting, talking to something laying in the grass.

Savina delicately stepped over to join them, her eyes finding the prone and still form of a butterfly at the feet of her pups. Oh dear... It was obvious that the two girls had no idea that the butterfly was dead. But why should they? They had no concept of death, they were too young for such things. But it seemed that the explanation of that darker side of the world was coming quicker than she had anticipated. She knew it would upset them, and for that she was sorry. She knew her gentle daughters had had no intention of hurting the bug. The raven woman took a seat, smiling softly at her pups. "Did you two catch the butterfly with your mouths or your paws?" She was certain they must have, there was no other way they could. Once they were older and could shift she could show them how to gently catch one with their hands, but that was a ways off.

Amata’s eyes were still transfixed upon the bug. "Yeahs! We makes a fwiends today! Come see, Mamma!" With a big smile that had a tongue lolling out and a very happy tail, the girl stood by this allegedly newly made friend. The creamy girl looked up as her sister joined her at the place where the butterfly was sleeping. She smiled up at Cambria as if she were sharing a delightful secret. Her head was still happy from where her mother had licked it in greeting, and her tail was still wagging. She was so happy that their mamma had come so soon, as if by magic. And her momma had a way of doing that—of doing things as if by magic. So maybe momma’s magic would wake the pretty butterfly. And maybe she would have magic too when she grew up.

The girl’s tail was wagging furiously as her pretty mother came near—surely she would be just as excited as they were to see such a pretty friend! But Savina didn’t seem as excited as they were, and the creamy pup noticed this as the adult sat down. Her words made the daughter turn her eyes away from the pretty bug. "I caughts her wiff mai moufs," the pup said, but her voice had become a little more quiet and her bright, tongue lolling smile had begun to falter. It was as if the young girl could sense that something was wrong. Her head tilted slightly as she looked up at her mother, and the pup slowly sat down, taking an almost nervous sidelong glance at her sister and then at the butterfly. Amata’s small ears perked forward as those dual eyes looked at her mother’s green gaze, trying on a slightly brighter smile as she hoped that nothing was wrong.

lol, it's weird writing two replies to one thread in a row XD

Cambria giggled happily as her mother's tongue brushed the top of her head. She loved getting kisses! They made her feel all warm and happy inside. As they bounded back and their momma questioned them it didn't occur to her that it would be strange for them to make friends with a butterfly. The thought that wolves were mainly just friends with other wolves had never crossed her mind. If something was nice and pretty like the butterfly was, why not be friends with it? It made perfect sense! Even if the butterfly didn't talk back to them. She grinned back at her sister. Surely momma would be so proud of them for making a new friend. It was something they hadn't done before!

But as their mother came over and saw the butterfly she didn't seem as excited as they both had hoped she'd be. Was there something wrong with being friends with the butterfly? She hoped not! She really like the butterfly! As she sat down, the pup walked over and sat next to her mother, looking up at her, sea colored orbs questioning. "Yahs, Amata cawts it. Is dat...not goods?" Hopefully they hadn't done something that would get them in trouble. Cambria didn't want to get in trouble and have momma be upset with her or her sister. She caught Amata's gaze and showed the same confused hesitance. Then she spared another glance at the still sleeping butterfly. Were her initial fears that something was wrong with it true? At that thought her smile disappeared completely. The pup scooted even closer to her momma, looking up at her with sorrow leaking into her eyes.

She could see the happiness that had been so exuberant in their eyes falter and she wished that she could ignore the incident. But even if she did ignore it this time, sooner or later it would come up again. They would wonder why all their butterfly friends they caught always were so still afterwords and never seemed to get back up. No, in this case a little white lie really could not serve. She continued to smile at both of them, so they would not she was not upset with them. There was no reason for her to be upset, she just had to share an unpleasant truth with her daughters. "I'm afraid your new friend won't be waking back up my little ones." Savina wanted to break the news as softly as she could, so she chose her words carefully.

"You see bugs, like butterflies, are very fragile creatures. If you want to play with them, they need to be handled very delicately. If you catch them with your teeth or with your paws, it hurts them, and they go into a sleep that they don't wake up from." The mother didn't really want to use the word "dead" or "death" or "died". It may have been silly to avoid that, since they would find out what it all meant before she truly wanted them to. Still, putting in the terms of "sleep" was not only easier to swallow, but it was in terms that her young pups could understand. "I want you to know I'm not upset with you darlings, you didn't know." She sat there waiting, knowing their reactions would be that of remorse and sorrow.

Mamma explained that the pretty butterfly wouldn’t be waking up. At first, Amata thought that this must be a game, but her mother’s expression told her other wise. The smile completely faded from the pup’s stubby muzzle as she asked, "Why?" in a very quiet voice. But her mother was very thorough and very wise, and she explained that they were fragile—which must have meant that they hurt easily. Catching them with teeth was bad, and she knew that now. The little puppy stood up, her creamy legs turning to let her face the butterfly that would never get up. For a very long moment, the girl just stood there watching it, unable to look at her sister, whom she had assured very certainly that the butterfly was okay. The bright day had suddenly turned very scary, and suddenly she felt very far from the manor and from her sister and especially from her mother.

The creamy girl’s dual coloured eyes sprung with tears. For a moment, she simply looked at the butterfly and was afraid. But she was not afraid of the butterfly or the sleep that she had induced. She was afraid because she had done it. A quiet whimpering escaped from the girl—she didn’t want to play any more. "I’m sawwies," she whimpered to the butterfly before breaking into a run, seeking her mother’s comfort. She sniffled and she cried and whimpered, and when she reached her mom, she hid beneath her sitting form and pushed her face into her mother’s fur. "I didn’ means to, Mamma," she whailed. Her tail became tucked under her form as she balled up, being very sad and sorry that she had hurt the butterfly. She was glad that mamma wasn’t mad at her, and she wanted to not be outside anymore.

The butterfly wasn't going to wake back up? Ever? The puppy's fading smile was completely erased and her ears dipped back against her head. She didn't understand. Why had that happened? They hadn't wanted to hurt the butterfly! All they had wanted to do was to play with it and be it's friend but they had made it go to sleep forever. Her eyes became watery and she looked back at the poor little butterfly. I sowwies... The day had turned from a very nice fun day to one that wasn't nice at all. The air felt colder somehow and the small girl had to resist the urge to shiver. She didn't like this. She didn't like any of this at all.

Cambria looked over at her sister, but Amata had already rushed to their mother. She couldn't take it anymore. Big, salty, crocodile tears fell from her oceanic orbs. Her head rolled back and she let out a whimpering cry. She was so sad. She had never ever been this sad before. Not even when the mean puppy said she wasn't pretty. Wobbly legs carried her unsteadily to her mother as well. She pushed as close to their momma as possible, squishing herself in beside her sister. Sobs wracked her little body. She couldn't find her voice to say any words and even if she had they would have been distorted by her crying. Cambria just pushed her face into her mother's soft dark fur, wanting to be far away from the sad butterfly they had hurt.
