Ehno.

It was strange, to be a in a place that seemed to exist in between places. Lime green eyes scoured terrain that had become more and more familiar within the passing months. Lines of green crept up from cracks in the sidewalk, warring with the otherwise monotone color of the city. Even the sky above reflected the hues of concrete and asphalt. Storm clouds gathered above her head, hanging low and ominous, full of a flood. It seemed that everything here was a pearl gray, in contrast with the trees that twisted alongside buildings, and roots that crumbled the sidewalks.

The gray femme walked swiftly, feeling the dryness in the air, the calm before the storm. She could have chosen a better day to venture out into Halifax, but she had felt particularly restless that morning. She had awakened with much on her mind. Thoughts swam, and emotions teemed transparent on her face as she flitted through each different subject. A lot had happened in the last few weeks. It seemed as though life just kept getting more eventful for the woman.

Two thoughts floated to the surface, seeking to enthrall her and steal away her full attention from the present. First, how strange and complicated her feelings and situation with Jefferson seemed to have gotten. When she was with him, she wanted to feel so much at once, but didn't have enough room in her heart to feel everything at once. Her last meeting with a blue-eyed woman haunted her thoughts too. Her mind stayed on the minute details, the eerie glittering in her eyes, the deceptively soft tone and her strange, cruel words. She didn't know what to feel or think about it. She didn't want to feel anything at all.

Lime green eyes searched the sky overhead as she stopped on the cracked sidewalk. A wind, soon to turn violent, caressed her uplifted face. The clouds looked far too dark, and the dry weather wouldn't hold. She would have to seek shelter soon, or run the risk of being soaked. Still, she found herself without direction or purpose. She didn't know where to go.

Thank you for starting. <3 And this feels kinda rambly, sorry. :x 500+

He needed to get out, to let his legs choose their own path and wander where they pleased, to let his mind explore the mysteries of some new territory instead of the heavy thoughts that seemed to weigh down his mind lately. He needed to embrace his thirst for the unknown and lose himself in a journey, if only for a few short days. The Marino wanted some time to forget that strange, worried feeling that had settled in his belly ever since the disappearance of Ghita. Is this what it felt like for mama and Savina when she first ran off in Italy? he wondered. When I left them? He hated this feeling, and he was determined to get rid of it, though in a safer, more familiar manner than his inadvertent previous attempt; the fight with that loner on the pack borders had been foolish, but he couldn’t bring himself to regret it, not fully.

The evidence from this recent folly was still clear on him. The minor cuts and bruises had seemed to heal over the last week and a half, but the larger, foolishly received injury on his shoulder hadn’t quite healed into the pearly scar tissue it would inevitably become. Ehno replaced the old bandage on his injured shoulder just before leaving, wrapping the clean white cloth of the new one around the wound as tightly as he could. The Sergeant knew it was probably a bad idea to travel with the not-quite-healed injury, but he was becoming too stir-crazy not to take a little trip. He was satisfied that the little punk wouldn’t be returning to Crimson Dreams too soon, and the pack knew to keep an eye out for him if he dared show his face again.

So the chocolate-hued male had set off, feet sticking to the familiar path to the old human city. He had arrived late the night before, holing up in a hollowed out building for a few hours rest before he ventured out in the daylight to explore. A loud rumble sounded above him and he tilted his head up to the heavens. He squinted amber eyes to peer at the angry plump, grey clouds above, though the wavy brown bangs of his mane disrupted his view. He shook his head slightly to remove the unruly hair from his eyes, making a mental note to trim them shorter when he got a chance.

He shifted the worn bag he had slung over his uninjured shoulder, taking to following one of the dirty, cracked sidewalks through the city. The wind picked up from behind him tousling his fur as he traveled. The weather was guaranteed to get ugly soon, but Ehno didn’t plan on taking shelter until the storm started. He let his feet wander for a few empty minutes, taking him further into a part of the city he had never traveled before. He spotted a silhouette in the distance on a path perpendicular to his own, its back turned to him. As he approached, the grayscale figure seemed to click into place in his memory. She was downwind, so he couldn’t confirm her identity through scent, but he was fairly certain it was her. “Geneva?” he called, continuing on his leisurely pace in her direction. The Sergeant hadn’t seen the woman since the birth of his nieces and nephew. He wondered how she’d been doing the last few months.

Sorry for the delay Jenny. Totally my bad!

The gray hued wolfess turned at a sound. Her lime green eyes were wide open, ears erect, and mouth partially open as she searched for the source. She could have sworn she had heard someone calling her name, but it was difficult to tell. She had thought she was alone in the empty streets, but it seemed that it wasn't the case after all. She swallowed the sounds of her own thoughts pounding in her head as she waited to finally find whoever had called her name.

It was not long before she saw a familiar shape. A brown-hued male stood not far away, making his way toward her. The female was dumbstruck for a moment as she realized who it was. Ehno. Her face split into a small smile. She had not seen the man since the birth of Savina's litter, and that had been months ago. For a moment, she spared a thought to the mother and children. The pups certainly had to be grown by now, wandering on their own and learning new things. She felt guilty that she had not been by to see Savina, but the thought of traversing to Crimson Dreams made her stomach turn.

"Hello Ehno," she said, a bit apprehensively although there was still warmth in her tone. She always enjoyed the time she spent with the chocolate hued explorer, but her encounter with Anu left her wary. The woman had told her to never come back, to never step foot on Crimson Dreams soil again. Anu's pain had sent her into exile, and there was very little she could do to contest the woman's will.

It's all good. :]

He was glad to see the woman turn and greet him from where she stood. He waved to her, continuing to walk in her direction. It was nice to see her again after all these months. Part of him always wondered why the gray-toned lady had left Crimson Dreams, but he would never ask. It was her business, not his own. He was certain she had good reason to move out to another pack, whatever that reason may be. As long as they could still have a nice friendly chat, Ehno was content to have that reason remain a mystery. He came to a halt a few feet away, a smile gracing his lips.

“How have you been, stranger? Keeping out of trouble I hope,” he teased with a light tone. Thunder sounded above them once again as if the clouds were giving yet another warning of the approaching storm. He spared the noisy clouds a glance, idle thoughts likening their roars to some sort of countdown to the storm. The wind whipped around them and the clouds released another boom of sound. He turned his amber gaze back to Geneva. “I suppose it would best if we found some shelter before the storm hits.” The Chief Sergeant looked around at the nearest buildings, wondering which would be best to go into. That was one good thing about the city; there were always places to hide from the rain.

Geneva felt apprehensive at first, as the chocolate colored man approached. She was genuinely glad to see him, but thoughts of Crimson Dreams whispered through her mind. She opened her mouth to say that she had to go - although she did not have a destination in mind. But she hoped that he would not ask her questions about why she had left. She hoped that he had not made the connection to Anu's strange, tumultuous moods. The woman was now troubled and changed, and she felt it was all her fault.

She was relieved when he kept things easygoing. "I wouldn't necessarily say I've stayed out of trouble," the gray woman said with a grin. "But I haven't gotten caught." The soft-spoken woman wasn't normally so outwardly humorous, but she felt ease settle over her in the man's presence. He had been one of the first creatures she had met in Nova Scotia, and he had always been kind to her.

Lime green eyes flashed up to the sky as another sound ripped through the air. Then she looked at the man and nodded. "I think that sounds like a good idea," she agreed. She cut her eyes to the closest building. It was a small store on the corner and the door was cracked, but the windows were still intact. "This way," she said, looping her arm through his own and leading the way.

Ehno laughed light-heartedly as Geneva joked back. He was happy to find that they could still be comfortable in each other’s presences, despite how long it had been since they last saw each other. It was nice to discover that Phoenix Valley hadn’t changed the lady too much. The man was always happy to spend time with a friend, especially if they were to have a little adventure in the city. Ehno began to feel relaxed, finally free of the burdensome thoughts that had been drifting through his mind lately. A smile was plain on his features as the gray hued woman took his arm and led him to one of the old buildings.

The duo stepped into the abandoned store and was greeted by a quiet calm that so starkly contrasted the stormy weather just outside. Ehno tossed his head back in a quick motion, attempting to move his wind-tousled bangs from his eyes. The clouds above them clashed together violently in that moment, the sound loud enough to rattle the glass windows in their sills. The Marino’s amber gaze darted to the window, watching as the wind carried a paper bag along the street. Ehno brought his attention back to Geneva, his playful smile still in place. “Glad to be out of that mess, eh, troublemaker?” he teased. The approaching storm looked like it was going to be a mean one, but the building they took refuge in was a sturdy one. Definitely a good choice of shelter. He looked around the quiet store, taking note of a small, cluttered counter to their right and the rows of small shelves in front of them. A variety of objects littered the floor around the shelves, indicating that someone had been through once before, but a layer of dust coated everything, proving that whoever raided this store had done so months ago at the very least.

His joy was infectious. She could feel her negative feelings melting away, as though they were washed away by his presence. It had been a while since she had felt light-hearted, and although she did not feel completely free of the weight of her thoughts, Ehno definitely relieved her. She had almost forgotten what a comforting presence the Marino man was. Geneva had been much closer to Savina, but she liked her brother very much as well.

The woman was glad to have found shelter before the storm really kicked in to high gear. Geneva accepted stormy weather as inevitable, but she did not like it one bit. It had been cold for far too long. It had been raining for weeks on end, and the wolfess longed for a sunny day.

The wolfess took note of their surroundings briefly, but she only had eyes for her old pack mate. It was like having a little peace of home back, although she did not consider Crimson Dreams home anymore. Too much had happened and had changed to alter her perceptions. Still, his was a face she was glad to behold. "How have you been? Tell me everything."

Ehno was very glad for the calm shelter the old store offered them. It was much more pleasant to spend time with an old friend out of the stormy weather this region seemed to favor. At times the Italian man was still surprised at how much rain these clouds could unleash, though he should be quite used to all of this by now. A storm much like the one brewing outside was responsible for bringing him to this shore, after all. He turned back to Geneva, one of his silly smiles on his features. He realized then just how long it had been since he last saw her. A few months had gone by and so much had happened.

“Ah, I’ve been alright,” he admitted. The last few weeks hadn’t been the greatest for him, but arriving in the city and bumping into Geneva had lifted his spirits considerably, so he couldn’t rightfully say he was doing badly. He broke away from his old friend for a moment, stopping in front of the cluttered counter to their right and pushing the random assortment of paper, pens, and small old packages to one side. Satisfied, he turned and sat upon the cleared surface, patting the spot beside him to indicate that she should join him. No sense in standing around, right? His feet swung idly as he continued. “My other sister, Ghita showed up out of the blue a while back. The whole Marino family reunited at last.” A bittersweet smile graced his lips. “But a few weeks ago, she just disappeared without a trace. Couldn’t find her anywhere. I was a bit on edge after that, wound up fighting some intruder on our borders…” he trailed off, eyes darting to the bandage wrapped around his left shoulder. Little punk deserved it, though.

His thoughts quickly returned the present, gaze shifting once more to the gray-hued lady. Maybe she’d have something more pleasant to add to their conversation. “What about you? How’s life in Phoenix Valley treating you?” Besides the late Iskata, Ehno had never met anyone else from the Valley. He had never visited the pack lands, but he knew it lay somewhere to the east, a little tidbit of information he had picked up one day. He didn’t know much else about the Valley or those who called it home. Hopefully Geneva was enjoying her new life there. The question of why Geneva had chosen to leave in the first place surfaced again, but Ehno pushed it away once more. As curious as the Marino man was, he wasn’t pushy or nosy. He knew what he was meant to know, that’s how he saw things.
