400+ Gotham! :] Would you mind if we backdated this two days or so?

Ehno hadn’t stepped foot inside the manor for the last few days. Anytime he came anywhere close to the large stone building, those heavy thoughts of his would weigh down on his mind, adding a frantic beat to his heart. He was afraid to go in there. His sisters were there, his whole family was there, and he was afraid to face them. Being in close proximity to the manor meant being in close proximity to them and that brought him ever closer to telling them all what had happened. That he was going to be a father. That Naniko was to be the mother of his pups and that she didn't plan on coming back to Crimson Dreams. He especially dreaded sharing the news with his raven-hued sibling. This was supposed to be joyous news, but instead he was afraid that she would feel like he betrayed her. Sooner or later he would have to face her, but he had no idea what to tell her.

He still had no clue what he was going to do. If Naniko really did plan on joining another pack, would he follow after her? Would he remain here in Crimson Dreams? He couldn’t abandon Naniko and the pups; the chocolate hued male was determined not to follow in Serge’s footsteps. The decision should be simple, then, shouldn’t it? But the thought of leaving the side of his siblings and the children caused a sharp ache to stab at his heart. Part of him felt like it would be another act of betrayal. It felt easier to simply avoid thinking about it and discussing it, so he stayed away from the mansion for as long as he could.

The Marino chose to spend that day along the southern shores of the pack lands. He slowly made his way through the thicker forests of the southern lands, enjoying the more upbeat look the area held with the rare sunshine pouring over it. It helped lift up his somber mood a bit. As he worked his way through the dense foliage, he noticed a few large shapes through the trees. The closer he got, the more his interest grew, and he soon forgot all about his initial journey to the shores. He suddenly realized that the shapes ahead were human buildings, different in shape and structure from the manor to the north. Ehno came to a halt a couple of meters from the nearest building, golden eyes taking in the sight of the looming structure and the foliage that seemed to be trying to take it over.

That would be fine! Smile Thanks for starting!

Now that he was getting bigger, the boy was starting to explore a bit more. The forest, in its dimness and strange muffled hum, was a wee bit creepy, but Gotham relished in it. The ground felt soft and spongy beneath his paws, and the occasional patch of moss was like a nice rug. The pup's eyes were wide as he inspected the undersides of tree branches, attention flickering between every bird that cheeped and every insect that buzzed. It seemed like an entirely different world than the one that the boy had spent most of his life in, and though he had been in forests before he had never been this deep, and he had never been alone.

Strange shapes started to be visible through the thinning wall of trees, flat and straight and so different from the organic forms that surrounded him from all other sides. He hesitated for a second, pausing with one forepaw hung above the ground, before moving forward a little more sneakily, his head lower to the ground and his ears folded back. This called for an investigation!

It seemed like the boy wouldn't be alone for too long. As he approached the building he caught a familiar scent. A little smile pulled across his face as he continued to sneak forward, closer and closer to the buildings and closer and closer to his uncle. How strange that he should find him out there! Anyway, even if it was an odd occurrence it was a good thing, because he hadn't seen his uncle for a very long time. Gotham intended to surprise him a little, just like he had surprised Brooklyn and Mati. He snickered a little as he moved forward, getting closer and closer. Because the forest was strange and creepy and that might cause Uncle Ehno to react funny, the boy decided not to actually pounce right on him. Instead, he leaped toward him from behind, crying as he flew through the air, "Ciaaao, ziiio!"

300+ Big Grin

Ehno had been around this area of the pack lands a number of times before, but he had never stumbled upon these old, strangely located buildings. It seemed odd to him that he would find these old human structures so far out in the forest. They were no where near the city, where buildings like these would fit in seamlessly. Yet Haven Manor was far removed from the city of Halifax as well, and he thought nothing odd of it. Perhaps these buildings up ahead were simply a cluster of human houses, just as the mansion was. The idea caught his interest quickly, and Ehno was soon determined to examine them a little more closely. He continued toward the tall, rectangular shaped buildings up ahead, intent on getting a closer look. That explorative itch in the back of his mind propelled him forward, allowing him to forget all about his troubles, if only for a moment.

The forest’s usual quiet was disrupted suddenly as a loud cry sounded out behind him. A few of the birds perched in the nearby trees chirped in protest to the noise and flew off to a safer location. Ehno straightened up immediately and turned around, startled by the sudden noise. He recognized the sudden cry as Italian just as he recognized the small figure soaring towards him. He laughed as his nephew fell beside him. Ehno nudged the boy playfully, a grin lighting up his face. "Ehi Gotham. Vedo che lei ha lavorato su che piomba di vostro," he joked. The growing boy definitely seemed to be getting the hang of it; Ehno had been so absorbed in the sights before him that he didn’t even notice the boy creep up on him. "Che lei fa tutta la maniera fuori da qui?" The Lieutenant had never really seen Gotham or his sisters out wandering too far from the mansion on their own. But of course as children grew, so did their curiosity for the unknown, and the pack lands were filled with unknowns for the pups to explore.

Gotham didn't know much about humans at all, and didn't think anything of the fact that there were these strange buildings out in the woods. It seemed to be a fact of life that the extinct creatures had left their structures almost everywhere, even where one might not expect to find them. He merely assumed that their presence would be a given, and upon the presumption that other wolves wouldn't find them odd, Gotham let them slip by. They did house an immense amount of mystery, though, and there was a sort of grandeur in that. The raven-furred pup had a fondness for the things that were not familiar to him, and for this reason alone the boy would grant them some attention. Not yet, though - his uncle was here!

With the little nudge, Gotham pulled his head a little backwards before doing a little bounce toward his uncle, a wide grin across his face. The Italian words thrilled him, the lifting and falling rhythm of the language so pleasant to his little ears. Giggling a little bit at what Uncle Ehno said, he nodded and replied, "Sì, Zio, mi alleno ogni giorno!" And, though it might be true that he forgot to practice his pouncing once and a while, he did it as often as he could. He wagged his tail as he thought about how much he must have improved for his uncle to notice. They hadn't seen each other for a while, but surely his superior pounce was not only due to his growing size and strength.

Grinning, the boy tried to think of a reply to the next question. There wasn't really a good answer, as he had simply wandered away, but perhaps that was just it! "Mi avventuro!" Almost every time he left his home it was an adventure, and this was perhaps the boldest yet! With a wide grin, he asked, "Vuoi venire con me?" The pup's cerulean eyes were wide as he stared up at his uncle. It was exciting to explore by himself, but having some company, especially Uncle Ehno, whom he had not seen for a long time, would be quite pleasant.

I'm so so so sorry for the fail!wait and the funkiness of this post. D:

Ehno smiled at the enthusiastic boy and laughed light-heartedly as he bounced forward. The uncle sat down for a moment, watching the Phoenix child through amber orbs. "Molto buono," he said in approval. These little games of sneaking around and pouncing on others were both fun and beneficial. The more practice the boy got now while he was young, the easier it would be for him to slip into hunting when he got older. "Tiene a praticare, ed in un batter d'occhio a tutto lei sarà il Re del Piomba!" The chocolate hued male grinned at the silly title. He had no doubt at all that the young Gotham would one day be able to claim to be the best sneaky pouncer in the lands.

The boy proclaimed that he was adventuring and Ehno found himself nodding in approval. The Marino was very fond of adventuring himself, and whenever he found someone else enjoying the task he was pleased. "Amerei venire con tu," he said, amber eyes lighting up with excitement. He couldn’t wait to see what sort of adventures he and Gotham would have. He loved exploring unknown places and he loved spending time with Savina’s little ones. Putting the two together made things even better. Ehno looked back over his shoulder to the sprawling old buildings for a moment before turning his attention back to the dark-furred boy. He leaned down so that he would be eye-level with his nephew, a smile gracing his lips. "Che lei dice che andiamo l'assegno fuori da quegli edifici?" he asked in a hushed voice, as if he were sharing a precious secret.

The boy definitely liked the sound of that title. "Il Re del Piomba!" he exclaimed after his uncle did, a wide grin on his maw and his tail flopping wildly from side to side. It was exciting to hear that all his practicing had paid off, and Gotham was determined to continue just as Ehno had suggested until he was pouncing royalty. Though he wanted to be very good at sneaking around, the main reason the pup did it was because it was just so much fun! When he was being stealthy he felt as if he was some kind of creature hunting a prey more dangerous and more intelligent than anything that roamed the earth. The secrecy of it all made adrenaline slip into his veins and he found it very, very exciting.

After the thrill of the prospect of becoming the King of the Pounce, there was even more excitement! Exploring was fun by oneself, but it would be even better with Uncle Ehno. As he leaned closer, Gotham's tail wagged almost uncontrollably, shaking his entire back half around in the air. Somehow the fact that he was whispering made it even more titillating, and though the pup tried to whisper back his voice turned out to be quite loud and rather startling compared to the relative silence of the world they were surrounded by. After shouting his "Si!" and cowering a little because of the noise he had made, he peered sheepishly into his uncle's eyes. He knew that if he wanted to be sneaky he couldn't let his enthusiasm manifest itself so loudly. Taking a deep breath and nodding a little to show that he had collected himself, he turned his head to peer at the strange buildings.

He would let his uncle take the first step, because even though he wouldn't admit it he was just a little bit nervous. Around his sisters he took the role of a brave knight, but because he knew that adults were even more brave than him he adopted a more careful disposition. He didn't need to be bold for them.

Ehno chuckled as Gotham nearly shouted his agreement in excitement. He whispered a simple ‘shh’ to the boy, pairing it with a wink to let the boy know he was only teasing him. When the boy calmed himself, he motioned to the old buildings looming in the distance with a tilt of his head, signaling the start of their adventure. Ehno began walking, head lowered and steps careful, as if he were stalking some unaware prey. They could adventure and practice their sneaking all at once. A big smile remained on his muzzle as he moved forward. The Italian man was always happy to spend time with his nephew. Their little games never ceased to entertain him. And right now it was a fun way to distract himself from the thought of how his life seemed to be getting more complicated each day.

The chocolate hued male pressed forward, eyes locked on the nearest of the cluster of oddly placed buildings. This structure was smaller than the ones surrounding it. It was a simple, one-story building, its thick concrete walls possessing various cracks that many plants took advantage of, spider webbing along its surface in a lively green trail. The slanted tin roof looked worse for wear, sporting rusted holes from years of rainfall. Ehno turned at the corner of the building, amber gaze locking onto the little building’s entrance. The door was propped open by a loose bit of debris, almost as if it were waiting for them to arrive. He nosed the old steel door open and it let out a little squeak of protest. He stepped in quietly, continuing his sneaking. He stopped briefly there in the entrance, holding the door open against his shoulder for the little King of the Pounce. Ehno looked to his nephew, excitement clear in his eyes. "Vediamo che che tipo di segreti nascondono qui dentro," he whispered eagerly.

Gotham kept tight to his uncle's side, as if he were his shadow. His head kept low to the ground, occasionally flicking his azure eyes up to Ehno's head. Sometimes the pup felt as if he could be more sneaky if his eyes were not such a strange color. It was very easy to see them when the place he was trying to hide was dark, like his fur. If his eyes were brown or black he would be even more like a shadow, and perhaps even sneakier. He would just have to practice and be extra sneaky to make up for his obvious eyes, though, and since Amata had commented that he had cool blue eyes he didn't mind them so much. His creamy colored sister was always boosting his confidence, even if she didn't know it!

As they grew even closer to the odd building, Gotham stared in awe. Vines wrapped around the concrete walls, reclaiming them in a net of green, and it seemed possible that the plant was the only thing holding it together. The chatter of birds in the forest around them sounded distanct, as if it was pulled away, and the silence of the odd abandoned buildings seemed tangible and viscous. The quiet squeak of the door made the pup jump just a little bit, his eyes moving down from the decrepit roof of the building to where the larger wolf was holding the door ajar. Shaking off his hesitance, Gotham scuttled through the door, giving his uncle a wide-eyed grin as he passed him. The building seemed rather eerie inside, which added to the boy's excitement.

The ebony puppy was rather sensitive to how words were used, and his inherent bias towards monsters made Ehno's use of the word 'hide' even more thrilling. He took a few quiet steps down the hallway, the dust on the checkered floor muffling the sound of his footfall quite nicely, before turning his head over his shoulder to look at his uncle. "Pensi che ci siano dei mostri?" Though this was a slightly frightening idea, the boy grinned a little as he turned his head forward again. The doors that lined the hallway were quite mysterious, and so was the corner and open seeming area at the other end from where the two wolves had entered. What an adventure this would be!

300+ They totally need to find a raccoon or something silly in here. XD

Excitement built up within Ehno as their little adventurous game continued. With an eager grin on his maw, Ehno followed his nephew into the building and continued his stealthy march down the hallway for a few paces. The boy brought up the prospect of monsters with a little grin of his own, and the idea seemed perfect to Ehno. "Ci potrebbe essere. Dovremo spaventarli appena se ci sono." The Uncle offered this suggestion in the bravest voice he could muster up. As the pair stalked along the abandoned hallway, the Italian man’s imagination took over, placing them in some compromised fortress in need of reclaiming. And who better to take up the mission than two adventurous and sneaky boys such as themselves? They could take down any monster foolish enough to oppose them!

The hallway itself held no interest for the chocolate hued male, as nothing but dust occupied its space. But the passageway led to many other intriguing prospects for adventuring. Ehno continued past a few of the doors lining the hall, but he stopped when he approached a room whose door was nearly falling off its hinges. "Mi domando ciò che è qui dentro," he mused aloud. Amber gaze searched for a moment for Gotham, reassuring himself of the boy’s location before he stepped into the dark room. What had once been a studious office was now a desecrated shell of its former self. Furniture was tossed about and pushed into various places and hundreds of papers littered the floor. A strange, musty smell permeated the air, but Ehno couldn’t identify it.

A scuffling noise grabbed the Marino’s attention, his ears perking instantly at the sound. At first he wondered if it was only Gotham shuffling his paws along the dusty concrete floor, but he boy was beside him, nowhere near the source of the sound. He whipped his gaze to the opposite side of the room where the noise popped up again. Ehno took a single step toward it and the noise abruptly stopped, filling the room with a palpable silence. Perhaps they weren’t alone after all. Ehno looked back to his nephew and motioned toward the chair and toppled over desk in the corner of the room. "Penso che possiamo aver trovato il nostro mostro," he whispered.

Haha, yes! I love this thread. :3

Wait - what had Uncle Ehno just said? It was possible to scare off monsters? Gotham always thought they were the ones doing the scaring, and it couldn't be the other way around. This new thought empowered him, and the boy grinned and puffed out his chest a little. It was very good to have this information, because now if monsters ever scared him he would have a good plan for counterattack! Trying to mimic Uncle Ehno's brave voice, Gotham bellowed out, "Mostri, siete cauti!" He had, once more, forgotten to be quiet and careful, but now he knew they could be scarier than the monsters. They didn't have to be all that sneaky, either, because everything that was in there was practically trapped with them! That was how Gotham justified his outburst, at least.

His adventuring companion's curiosity made the boy curious, as well, and he peered into the decrepit room too before following Ehno in. "Anch'io," he whispered, the dimness of the room making quiet seem necessary. It was very strange looking inside, nothing like Gotham had ever seen. He stared wide eyed for a moment, looking over the paper, an upside-down chair, a cracked desk. The slightest bit of fear wriggled about in Gotham's toes, and he lifted and set down each paw in turn as if to stomp it all out. He didn't have to be scared! The monsters would be scared of him!

It was easier to think that thought than actually put the plan into action, though, and when Gotham first heard the scratchy noise from the corner his tail flicked between his legs. No! he scolded it, and forced it to rise again. Show no fear! Here were the monsters they had been thinking of before, and now the boy had to prove to his uncle that he actually was a brave little pup. "Facciamoli paura!" he whispered urgently, looking up to Ehno for a moment before looking back to the corner.

Amusing thread is amusing. :3 And sorry for shortness!

The boy’s brave exclamation caused the man to grin. They were supposed to be sneaky if they wanted to catch those monsters off guard, but he didn’t even think of reminding the pup of that fact. Why ruin the fun? As far as he was concerned, they were the best adventurers Crimson Dreams had ever seen. They could take on the monsters both sneakily and loudly. They would always come out on top! "Ciò ha ragione, i mostri. Fare attenzione!" Ehno called, his eyes glinting with devious fun. Those monsters would know better than to confront them now. That didn’t mean they couldn’t seek out the monsters on their own to have a little fun.

It seemed that the duo had already found themselves a monster to play with. As the two wolves stood near the entrance to the room in silence, the faint scratching noise picked up again, betraying the presence and location of their monster. It was most certainly hiding behind that desk in the corner, Ehno was sure of that now. "Si, andiamo lo prende," the uncle agreed. The chocolate-hued male began quietly stepping toward the desk, motioning for his nephew to come along with him. The monster seemed to sense them and the room grew quiet again, save for their soft footfalls on the dusty tile floor. Ehno paused at the corner of the desk and turned to Gotham. "Sul conto di tre, salteremo fuori e spaventiamo il mostro, bene?" he whispered. Their little monster would be so surprised!

n____n Short is fine!

Understanding what Uncle Ehno's motion had meant and eager to see what kind of monster was hiding in the corner, Gotham mimicked his sneaky movements. He placed his giant paws down one after another as quietly as he could, the atmosphere in the room feeling electric. Each step that brought the boy closer made him feel even more nervous, but even more excited. He was about to see his very first big monster! There were monsters in the rain, too, but they were very tiny and invisible and all they could do was change Amata's fur to black, like Gotham's. The monster they had cornered in this messy room was a real monster, though! And the two wolves were going to scare it, because they were sneakier and braver than even monsters were.

He nodded gravely at his uncle's plan, not making a word. He had had his little outburst in the hallway, but now it was essential that the monster didn't know they were coming. The noise that it had heard before, of both the Crimson Dreams wolves' brave voices, would have raised suspense and made it kind of scared, and now that it was thinking they had probably gone away they would scare it out of its funny monster skin!

In preparation, Gotham lowered himself closer to the dusty tiles, taking one last glance at his uncle before fixing his eyes on the monster-infested corner. The pup struggled to contain his excitement as he waited for Ehno to say those three magic numbers.

Many, many apologies for how late this is. T_T And lol, I totally meant to have Ehno count down in my last post. Oh well! XD Also, a bit of powerplay here. Let me know if you want anything changed!

“Tre… due… uno!” the uncle counted down in a hushed tone. When the final number was uttered, he gave his nephew one last mischievous look of excitement before the pair leapt from their crouched positions and to the other side of the knocked over desk. A low growl rumbled from Ehno’s chest, his attempt at scaring whatever monster there was with something more than their sudden leap into view in the darkness. There was a sort of squeak followed quickly by the sound of their little monster bumping clumsily against the desk in surprise. There was a quick flash of reflective eyes before the little monster regained its senses and darted through the small space between the old desk and the wall. Ehno couldn’t help but laugh as the little beast scampered away.

Ehno turned to face his nephew, mischievous smile still in place. "L'abbiamo spaventato!" he called triumphantly. "Ma non possiamo lasciarlo prende lontano ancora." They could still play with their poor little monster friend couldn’t they? "Dove sarebbe potuto andare?" The room had grown nearly silent again. Apparently their small beasty friend really didn’t want to be found and frightened one more time. Ehno’s amber gaze scanned the darkness of the room for any sign of their frightened monster. Part of him wondered exactly what the little monster was, but he decided that the mystery was part of the fun.

Holy mano, so sorry for the delay <3

Dark body close to the ground, bright blue eyes fixed on the corner where their monster friend sat, Gotham concentrated as his uncle counted down from three. Encouraged by Ehno's growl, the boy let out a roar as he leaped towards the suspected monster, his tail high in the air and his head held high to make himself look bigger. As the thing squeaked and scuttled away, the pup watched with wide eyes, trying to track the movement of the dark thing in the dim, dusty room. There was, perhaps, a little twinge of guilt in the boy's heart; what if it was one of the nice monsters, surprised by their sudden aggression? It had let out a frightful squeak as it escaped them, and Gotham didn't think a monster would just let them get away with what they had done! Perhaps it was just tricking him, though, pretending to be nice and innocent so it could get them back later. The two had to be even more careful, then.

When Ehno exclaimed their victory, his nephew grinned widely back at him, his tail swaying. That bit of nervousness remained, but his uncle's confidence waxed it all over. He was right - they couldn't let the monster get away! Furrowing his brow and scrutinizing the dark corner he had thought the monster had disappeared into, he replied in a rather concerned voice,
"Non lo so, forse laggiù?" He peered some more, also wondering what the little creature could be. Was it a mean, tricky monster, or was it just some frightened little monster that would do no harm at all?

My turn to delay the thread further... XD;; We're both just so awesome, haha. And sorry for the shortness here. o:

Ehno turned his own gaze to the dark corner that had his nephew’s attention. He was rather certain that he had seen their little monster run toward that spot as well. He nodded in confirmation, amber-gold eyes scrutinizing the corner for any signs of movement. Nothing happened, nothing moved, and the silence remained in the little room. They must have truly frightened that little beast to cause him to keep so silent and still now. Ehno felt a twinge of guilt for scaring the little guy so much with their game, but they were only having a little fun, no harm done. He figured they could take a look at the tiny monster one last time before sending it on its way. He turned his attention to his nephew after a moment, read to share one last plan of attack. "Ci insinueremo su lui un più tempo, lentamente. Lo lasceremo via da facile e non lo spaventa molto questo tempo," he said with a wink. "Lei si insinua sopra dalla sinistra, ed andrò dalla destra.” With that, he began to slink toward the darkened corner.

Heck yeah ;P

This was all kind of spooky, in a silly way, and in a moment of levity Gotham had to hold back a giggle. He felt, perhaps, a little mean for doing this to the monster, but it was a monster after all! Anyway, his uncle's plan seemed pretty humane, and they would get a good look at the thing. After giving Ehno an enthusiastic nod, the boy snuck around to the left side, eyeing the corner intently just in case the creature managed to sneak around some other way. He wondered, now, what monsters looked like. Were they just shadowy beasts, as this one had appeared so far, or did they have giant fangs and ragged claws?

As they snuck closer and closer, Gotham's steps slow and careful, the creature became even more quiet than it already was, and whatever small actions it had been making completely stopped. The puppy thought he could see a bit of a gleam off the thing's eyes, and for a moment he felt a bit of fear. He was more guilty than anything, though, and though it was completely possible that the monster was just acting scared, it was also possible it was feeling as much fear as the boy could sense. He stopped his advance towards the thing, and stepped a little to the side, giving it a small pathway to escape. He wasn't sure if it would actually dart past him, though, or if that would be considered too risky. Feeling guilty both for scaring the monster and for letting his uncle down, Gotham cast Ehno a quick glance, to see if he knew what his nephew was up to.

He could let his imagination run free as it had when he was a child if he truly desired, but that ever-curious part of him kept his thoughts on their little monster rather grounded. For the sake of the game, he could imagine the mysterious creature to be some kind of monster, but as they chased it around the room, Ehno became more and more curious about what the beast really was. He became so focused on finding the answer to that question that he paid no mind to strange tactics of his nephew. When he felt that he had come close enough to the corner, he stopped and decided to try another tactic. Amber eyes swept the floor around him, stopping once they spotted a small bit of rubble. He lightly kicked it toward the corner, hoping to coax a little movement out of their beast. The creature squeaked in surprise and darted quickly through the small opening Gotham had created and headed to the room’s exit. It stopped in the doorway and turned to gaze at them for a moment, as if trying to assure itself that it had truly found freedom, before turning back around and darting out. As it ran off, Ehno recognized it to be a raccoon. “There he goes,” he said, laughing lightheartedly.

The end? Big Grin

As Ehno slowed, Gotham slowed his advance as well, stopping a few paces from the corner. His blue eyes flitted to the gap he had left, for a moment, and then moved to his uncle. The boy watched intently as the older wolf kicked a pebble or something towards the little beast, and almost jumped out of the way as the creatures flew past him. That was somewhat shocking! Gotham was a little disappointed in himself for moving to let the monster go by, but he chalked it up to a softness in his heart. He felt bad for the little guy, after all! His squeak was that of fear, not of a fearsome monster!

It paused in the doorway, and the youngster peered at it. Its little eyes were beady and strange, and its nose was so tiny. Their monster was not a handsome beast, like the two wolves that had found it. Gotham felt a tinge of sadness for it and its inability to be so wonderful, but he couldn't help but laugh along with his uncle. Smiling, he cried after the thing as it scurried away, "Arrivederci, Mister Monster!" There was some sincerity in his voice; he had truly enjoyed their time together.
