Shaking like a leaf on the corner of life.

Fall offered something that Mati had never noticed before. Of course she had been too young last year to see that colors that bloomed with the change of the season. Spring blossoms grew only in certain places, giving their bright hue to those that could find them. But the trees were everywhere, and so was the fire and sun that blazed among the branches. With the change of the seasons came a new-found muse, and the artist was excited to begin another piece of art dedicated to the death represented in the fall of each leaf.

The Captain and Nanny walked outside. The night’s chill hung in the air, and the morning dew still clung to the blade of grass she walked through. She was painting more and more, seeking the company of the pups more and more. But her walls were full and her supplies horribly low. Yet she managed to fill the box she used to carry them with almost useless things and scrounge another canvas up from a hidden place in a corner of her room. The world was not big enough for all the supplies she would use in her lifetime, if her need for distraction was always so great. The tide of her life were raging, her emotions a blur of indescribable feelings and Mati knew not what to make of it or how to solve all the problems that she faced.

Instead she wished to forget them, to pretend that they weren’t even there. To think that her brother hadn’t hurt her, to know that she wasn’t mad when she shouldn’t be, to not want to be close to someone that seemed arrogant and didn’t really want her. The male’s in her life were too much for her to deal with, and the females were no better. The violet eyed young woman matched through the grass, leaning to one side by the weight of the artist box. Forget, she forced through her brain, and as she thought it the clasps on the box broke and everything she had shoved inside spilled out onto the ground in front of the Manor. The Church woman looked down in disgust, and swore vulgarly.

300+ words. Sorry about the wait!

######The air had begun to chill, but it did not bother her too much, because of her natural protection from the cold. Still, Princess chose to wear the human dresses, even though it had no practical use during warmer weather, and looked a bit out of place in colder weather. The warmth humans had used clothing for was not needed by Princess, and she just liked to look pretty, so the dresses that she owned served that purpose magnificently. It was just a shame that she never seemed to have anyone to look pretty for, or to compliment her dress or her hair that she worked so diligently on each day. There was the option of going to see Haven soon (and she hoped that when she did, he would have as many nice things to say to her that he had said that first night), but she wasn't sure if she really felt ready to go and see him yet. It was a delicate subject with her, and though she knew she wanted to go see him soon, she was afraid that he might reject her, despite what he had said when he had come to visit her here and gotten punched by her brother.

######Not really thinking of where she was going, Princess was startled out of her own thoughts by some angry words from the large brown girl she could now see clearly, now that she was paying attention. "Such vulgarity," she said, tone light as she secretly wished she could turn and run. This confrontation could not be avoided forever, but it had not been her plan to do it today, and unfortunately, she was certain Mati had already seen her, so there would be no use in turning back now. Coming a bit closer, Princess was able to see some of the things on the ground, but she didn't know what they were or why they were on the ground. "What happened?" she asked, the question innocent enough. Hopefully, Mati would not be annoyed with her for asking, since she really didn't know what had happened, but she knew that she and Haven's sister did not have a particularly good relationship. It needed to be mended, but that could not happen if either of them was in a bad mood. Maybe Mati would take out her annoyances on her supplies instead of the other girl; that would be the preferred situation, but she couldn't pick and choose.

xD no worries at all!

The tall broad female would not find this winter as difficult as her very first. She had been young, and with only the protection of her family to scare away the cold. Mati needed nothing but her thick earthen toned coat to keep the chill away, or so she hoped to believe. The beginning of natures end was nothing more then a blustery wind; it was the change of the leaves that caught her artistic eye. But everything was strewn on the ground. Her paints rolled on the ground, her brushes flown through the air and strewn about the dying grasses. The bristles would be bent and broken, the paint in no orderly fashion. It wasn’t a tragedy, though Mati could have lived without the small annoyance. The curse fell from her lips without thought, learned from some forgotten place.

A voice, high in femininity and familiar rang in her ears and stopped her from bending down to retrieve her supplies. They mocked her, or so Mati thought. But they had been faint and flown in the distance. Perhaps she hadn’t heard her right. Violet eyes looked at the female that approached, and a few choice words came to mind. Yet, Mati had a bit more class and kept such things silent and behind a frown. The girl that had seduced her brother stood before her, asking with light tone what could have occurred.

Could she not see? Mati wondered as she looked away at the mess that had been made by the broken clasp on her artist box. Looking back she spoke, “Looks like it was a little too loose,” Eyes looked over the dressed wolfess, never truly understanding what drove those with a fur coat to dress. Ares did though, and Mati found the cloth intriguing. The unbridle desire to witness what lay beneath it coming to her each time she saw him. . . “the latch.” Mati finished. The supplies lay on the ground, but for the moment she only watched the female, questions brewing in her mind.

500+ words. ^___^

######Princess knew what had spilled all over the ground were art supplies, and she knew what they were used for. Likewise, her attempt at making conversation had only been that, since it was obvious what had happened. Regardless, it had worked, and Mati spoke in a tone that didn't seem like she wanted to bite Princess for coming close to her. That, at least, was a relief. . . Wasn't it? Perhaps she would have preferred if Mati had openly said, "Go away, I do not like you, and I hope you live a miserable life," though she did not expect her larger pack mate to say something like that to her ever. It seemed unlikely from someone related to Haven, whom Princess still held in such a good light that she refused to believe there could be anything bad about his sister. Once this was through, perhaps she would go seek out her lovely Knight, as she missed him terribly. The longing grew each day, and she knew she would have to go to him soon, for whatever reason. Now that she was alone with Mati, however, Princess knew that she could not leave until they talked about whatever was wrong between them. Both Ares and Haven would want that out of the two girls, wouldn't they? The relationship between herself and Haven was obvious to her, but there was something there between Mati and Ares, too. She did not know what, but there had to be something, or Mati would not have been offended so much by what Ares had said in anger that day.

######Taking the cowardly route, Princess studied the contents of the container, strewn across the fading grass. "What do you like to paint?" It was obvious that Mati painted, and since she had already asked one stupid question since coming across Haven's sister, she was not willing to ask another obvious one such as, "Do you paint?" For all intensive purposes, she wanted something good to come out of this meeting, and not for them to part ways with even more anger or frustration between them. More questions were bouncing around inside her head, and before she could stop it, another question slipped out, this one spoken in a tone that was less friendly, but more confused and hurt. "Why do you hate me?" No sooner were the words out of her mouth than she covered her mouth with her hand, almost surprised at herself for the outburst. It was obvious that the dressed girl was anxious to know the answer, but she had not meant to blurt the question out so suddenly. There was a proper way to go about things like this, but that certainly was not the way to do it. It should have been asked delicately! Instead, Princess was left standing there awkwardly, fighting the urge to run from Mati. She really liked Haven - not loved, certainly not after one night and one talk, but it was a possibility for the future - and she did not want his sister to hate her.

... oh man!

She lied. It wasn’t loose, it was completely broken. Yet a smile was felt in her mind as she spoke the words. Loose like the laces of the she-wolf’s dress, loose like the parting of her legs. Mati stopped her thoughts from moving any further, it was too horrific for her visual and imaginative mind. Mati was an artist, it was her nature to hold pictures in her mind to recreate in a way she desired. There was a large black space in her mind now, right where the Princess belonged. The words were futile, and did little to connect Mati to the young woman that spoke them. But, being polite as she mother had taught her to be Mati responded. “Anything. I was going to paint some fall foliage.” The words falling from her lips without any true interest behind them. She would likely walk away when she got bored, uninterested in anything that didn’t center around her, she seemed like that sort.

But instead of shrugging the earthen wolfess off she spoke again. Bluntly. If her words had not shocked Mati so badly she might have found amusement in the face that Princess made, covering her mouth as if she was a pup that had cursed in front of her mother. Mati could only stand and stare at her. Recovering after a moment she spoke with haste, “I don’t hate you.” But that was a lie, though Mati felt the words were translucent she tried to gather reasons not to hate her, and came up empty. She was a packmember, she shouldn’t hate her. What would Anu say to that?

“I,” she spoke as if she could find some positive truth, but came up short once more. Honesty was all Mati could find on her tongue and she spoke it “don’t like what you did to my brother. He needed help, not a drinking partner or to be confused.” She said as she looked at the prettied fey. Making herself look the way she did didn’t help someone heartbroken and drunk. Now he didn’t think that love existed, and on top of it thought sleeping around was something without consequence.

500+ words. Sorry for the wait!

######What Mati liked to paint was not really important, and the answer was lost on the dressed female. For all that she cared, the larger girl could have been going to paint a picture of the madmen in Inferni and whatever insane things they did there that Anselm had warned her about. Her interest in Mati's hobby was very small, and the only reason she might care is that the other girl was Haven's sister, and she liked Haven. Therefore, she had to keep her mind open to the vague idea that eventually, she would need to like Mati at least a little. Princess was so vastly different from the other girl, though, that she did not know if it was even possible for them to be close after what had passed between them the day that Haven had come to Crimson Dreams. Their talk had been unexpected, but after the confrontation with Mati and Ares as well, it had seemed like a walk in the park for her.

######Mati's denial of hatred shocked her, but her expression remained neutral in her silence. The explanation made sense, but she still did not believe her. "I didn't invite myself in, offer him alcohol, and then force myself on him, Mati," she said, keeping her tone as even as possible. "Until that night, I did not know what alcohol was. I saw him walking, and he was walking strangely, and the smell was odd, so I followed him. He invited me in, and he gave me alcohol, and things went from there." Her voice exhibited responsibility, though she did not know if Mati would realize that she was not trying to blame Haven for that night. While yes, he had given her the alcohol when he was aready drunk, it had been a mutual decision that they had reached, regardless of the state of mind they had been in.

######Closing her eyes, Princess inhaled slowly, trying to control the temper she knew that she had and that was beginning to creep into her mind. There was no way she was going to fight with Mati. . . Not here, not when they were discussing Haven, and preferrably not ever. If they would never get along, then they would have to avoid one another at all costs. "I didn't do anything to your brother. We both wanted it, Mati, and I wouldn't change what happened. And I think I did help, in a way, but even if you don't believe me. . . About any of this. . . Whatever. You're allowed to keep on not liking me." Princess wanted that, at least, to be clear. Crossing her arms right below her chest, she locked her gaze on the larger girl, refusing to let anything be said or done that could allow the topic to be dismissed. She wasn't looking for friendship; she was only looking for resolution. She owed that to Haven and Ares, at the very least, as well as to herself. Probably she also owed the effort to Mati, but she was still angry with Haven's sister for her reaction, so her juedgement was still a bit clouded.

what wait??? hushh...

It was true, neither of the females cared for each other. Neither wished to be friends, companions in any way. It was so very obvious that Princess was far from interested in anything more then Haven, Mati was convinced. She was certain that the girl only confronted her because of Haven, because the only reason Mati remained standing in her place was because her agenda was so very similar. The two were more interested in each others brothers then anything else. Ares was to Princess as Haven was to Mati, and if such a thing were true Mati would be foolish to strike the other female. Not that she wished the touch the perfectly made up fey, not in a violent way of course. Never would she tangle her fingers within the tendrils of her mane, pull the stands until they threatened to release from her scalp. Never.

Violet eyes remained blank, but she was eager to know what she had to say for herself. It was long winded, and Mati let her talk without interruption. A hand stayed to her hip, seated at the curve. Each of the words written together to pronounce her innocence and to plead her case. Mati watched with as much calm and composure as she could collect and present, but was not sure how accepting and open minded she looked. So it was all Haven’s fault? Her hear hurt at the thought, but then she really couldn’t believe that her brother had truly done that. Though, a small part of her wished to apologize for his actions, alcohol had almost destroyed Haven and no one needed such disaster.

Mati did not want to know how badly both wanted what had happened. It made her increasingly uneasy, and she fought to hide that feeling as well. The young woman had fought to keep her ragged family together, and inch by inch the seams had come undone and slipped loose. She and Haven were harshly sewn together, and she wanted nothing more then to keep her brother. This female threatened to unravel their relationship. If Mati allowed them to walk away from this with peace in their minds then she was condoning their relationship, and if she fought it she would push Haven further and further. In the end Mati was never the reason for anyone to stick around, Haven would not choose her. It was better not make the option real.

She let silence seep into the space between them. Eyes not leaving the smaller wolfess. Defeat was not something that Mati wished to accept, but at the moment she could see no victory. Instead of calling out a lie, the earthen hued woman spoke simply, slowly and with a hardness that could have been confused with calmness. “Don’t hurt him.”, it was all Mati cared about. And it was not just a mere request and far from a plea. Mati would not beg, never. It was a demand, a threat and deep down, wrapped up in the heart that her mothers and siblings had shredded, it was a promise. Mati would never let her get away with it.
