Before the start our love drifted apart

Haku Soul was a fluffy little fellow. With his arctic genes the young puppy kind of looked like that type of plushie that every child wants to have in their bed. The four months old puppy was parading proudly through Concrete Jungle as only an unobservant child could. Clouded Tears and its safety counted here too in the child’s opinion. There were no meanies that could touch him because he was the son of the Beta of his pack and his daddy was very strong too and would kill everyone if his son told him to (at least this was what Haku firmly believed). The CT puppy’s nose was glued to the ground a moment as he found a beetle. He inhaled with a snort and managed to get the light weight beetle stuck in one nostril. Its tiny legs went crazy and caused the boy to squeak loudly closely followed by a sneeze that sent the poor bug out again. ”Oeeh tickliieeeeeaaaah!” the young puppy squealed, not certain if this was funny or bad. It was kind of a gigglish feeling. The boy quickly caught up with the fleeing insect again, sniffing it up into his nose a second time and squealed some more when his nose exploded with tickles!

Aw man, Annee's table doesn't work anymore. Graphics poofed from her photobucket. D:

Chimera was home. That's what her new caretaker, someone who went by the name of Summer, would often say. Although young, Lillith was beginning to differentiate truth from fallacy. A statement of the sort was anything but the truth. There was no one left to rely on; no one except Ahren de le Poer. Her education had been minimal up to this point; what she'd learned stemmed from Thavardo and her teachings, none of which made sense to the average wolf. This was the main reason why she'd made no friends thus far. How could she? Other puppies were all simpletons, unable to tell left from right. In reality, Lillith found herself unable to look them straight in the eye. Jealousy would ripple beneath the surface everytime she'd lay eyes on their bubbly little faces.

His squeals announced his arrival before she could even notice another's presence. Already, he irked her to no end. He'd trespassed on her territory without asking permission first. Azathoth had crumbled to the ground, but it hadn't yet dawned on her that she had absolutely no right to claim the Jungle as her home any longer. "Hey," she whispered at first, short little tail held up high. But then, as her frustration grew, she mustered up a louder: "HEY!" She couldn't have no beetle-munching brat on her turf. How annoying. Sharp puppy claws dug into the ground, where Crow's daughter stood her ground with fervent determination. "Scuse me, what are you doing?" After a brief moment of deliberation, she continued with a second, more pertinent question. Was he one of them, the sinners who'd taken everything away from her family? "You know him, maybe? The monster with mean green eyes?"

Warm blue orbs rolled around in the boy’s head as tickles took over his world. He snorted loudly and wriggled for a moment in panic when the beetle wriggled and tried to crawl further into his nose. It went okay though because he sneezed and shot it out again. His tail waved around in all directions from pure joy. How amazing his tickling beetle was. He laughed loudly again as he watched the desperate little creature attempt to flee. Suddenly the beetle said “HEY” and Haku Soul gasped. Unfortunately it was not the beetle, but a stupid girl that had spoken. The boy looked up at the stranger child now, wondering if she wanted to steal his beetle.

She wanted to know what he was doing and he bared his tiny puppy teeth. “Nothing!” his young voice squealed before he broke into a big smile. Thinking about tickling beetle made his face smile even when he had to be serious and look tough! Know who! Oh fun this was a game too? Monster with green eyes? The boy had never heard that name before, but his sister, Mew Sadira, had green eyes! ”Yes I does, so there!” the boy shouted out at the black girl, a wide and self content grin spreading across his entire face.

At least he wasn't completely oblivious to the world around him. Azure orbs did not falter from his smaller form, mentally dissecting every single expression to cross his chubby little face. Astonishment was discernible for only a brief moment, long enough for Lillith to feel smugly satisfied by the fact that she'd caught him off guard. But then, his behavior changed. His upper lip made way for pointy fangs, a reaction which she seemed to find humorous. Didn't he know anything about submission? The Stormbringer child was obviously the oldest, smartest and tallest of them both; that was reason enough for her to exercise the little authority she possessed. As her annoyance grew, her face morphed into a sneer of sorts. Her jaw partly slightly, about to redeem her wounded ego, when her brain finally processed the answer he'd provided her with. Was he really part of Salvaged Eternity's clan of sinners? Her eyes narrowed into angry slits of green, burning with an intensity she'd never displayed up until now. The Azathoth women flashed before her eyes. Miska, Thavardo, Ravyn; two of which were currently dead.

"Listen peanut-brain," she murmured dangerously low, taking a few steps in the blue-eyed child's direction. Lillith had a few inches on him, and she made full use of her height. Her body towered over his, looming dangerously over who she thought was criminal. "This is my home, not yours!" she responded this time, her voice reaching heights she'd never thought possible. Yelling felt liberating in a twisted way; it was entirely new to her. In Chimera, she was at the bottom of the hierarchy pyramid. Everyone had control over her. But with the beetle-munching kid, it was the exact opposite. She was in control. The ebony girl did not linger unnecessarily, retracting before he could counter with a scream of his own. Her gaze nonchalantly travelled to the floor where the beetle now lay on its back. Was it dead or just pretending to be? Her little paw reached out, poking it lightly at first, waiting for it to move. When it showed no signs of life, she promptly decided to pound it. A crunching sound reached her ears, indicating that the bug was no longer. "There. Now start paying attention! Where is the green eyed monster hiding?"

Peanut brain? He had no peanut brain! The young boy hesitated now, not entirely sure what a peanut brain meant anyway. Was he smart? Round cheeks blew up with air, making the youngster look ridiculous. ”Oh yeahs? You haves nothing brain in head!” he announced loudly, determined to get her back for calling him stuff he did not understand. It was enough to hear her tone and see the look in her face. She had meant to insult him and Haku thought himself quite good at insulting people. He exhaled loudly, trying to sound scary without succeeding. She meant nothing to him anyway and now she was yelling about homes. The young Soul boy had never said it was his, but now he wanted to. Or at least come up with something that would make him look better than the sour, stupid girl. All girls were stupid in one way or another. ”Where I live my mommy is leader and you are all alone without a good and important leader mommy!” the young child bellowed, fur bristling with arrogance and superiority.

What happened next was incredibly sad. As the stupid girl’s stupid gaze travelled down to the forest floor Haku found his own gaze following; determined to look at whatever she was looking at in case it was something cool. Haku’s fluffy little tail hid between his hind legs now as the girl poked it with a paw. When Lillith stepped on the bug – creating a crunching noise – the boy fell down on his big bum and started crying loudly. She had killed the tickle beetleeeeeeee!!! Tears flooded his eyes and the girl’s words drowned as the poor little male puppy started wailing ”Moooom-m-mmmmyyyyyyyy!”. She needed to get him and find him a new beetle. She needed to find him and step on the mean, mean, MEAN MEAN MEAN girl that had just killed his new favourite toy.

She'd heard them in passing, Ahren and Tobias complaining about how girls were usually oh-so whiny. Hrmph. They probably would've changed their minds after encountering Mr. Crybaby himself. His pathetic attempt at returning the insult had her scoffing out loud. Hah! As if she hadn't heard that one before. Her playmates back in Chimera found great pleasure and amusement from constantly picking on her. No possible insult could've taken her off guard. Well, that's what she'd initially thought, until one of his comments struck a chord. She could handle his incessant babbling about how important his mommy was, but the part where he'd brought Miska into the equation washed over her like cold water. There she stood, torn in half by two prominent feelings surging through her brain. Pain and Anger. Ashen lips curled into an unhappy frown, not really caring if the boy saw how wounded she was.

"My mommy's dead," she answered, her tone of voice dripping with newfound disgust for her interlocutor. Aquamarine globes narrowed then, contemplating ways to torture the insolent being. The wheels of her mind churned until an adequate punishment was created.Thankfully, her victim was no genius. Lillith's body momentarily stiffened from neck to tail, and then, her entire demeanor changed. She advanced, her movements casual, mimicking the way she'd approach a friend or family member. "Wanna see what they did to her?" she offered, tone of voice dripping with a sweet nectar. The Stormbringer child couldn't really follow through with her proposal, because she hadn't seen exactly how her mother had died. She'd only been granted a glimpse of Miska's motionless body on the hardwood floor, surrounded by a pool of crimson liquid. Although she couldn't demonstrate what they'd done to her, Lillith could still inflict him with a certain degree of pain.

Death was alien to the young boy. It was not uncommon that loved ones died – not in these lands anyway – but Haku was still too young to have been confronted with death. Prey and random animals died, but they were not wolves. They did not count. Haku did not weep if he found a dead mouse. The beetle’s death had not reached him – it had been a toy that he had been fond of at that moment, but it had not been a life in that toy as far as the boy knew. There were no clear lines on such things. Everything was blurry at best. He was a child, and a very young one.

She seemed sad, bur right now that was good because his beetle had been crushed. He howled out the loss for his cool toy and for his mommy to come, but the whining quickly died down when the girl’s voice turned from stupid mean to quite kind. She said interesting things. Haku had never seen a dead person before and to be able to see what they – who were they!—had done to her sounded really scary and exciting at the same time. He wanted to see the dead body! ”o-okay,” the pathetic child sniffled loudly, snotty and with a wet face. Eeeww.

Suffering the loss of a parent was significantly harder for Lillith, given the fact that nobody had taken the time to explain the whole grieving process to her. She was left in the dark, completely clueless as to why such a thing had occurred. The three most influential women she'd ever known were presently either dead, or gone. What had she done to deserve such a fate? Life was a bitch. It was a shame, for someone as young as her, to show such distrust for people in general. Little ones were supposed to be all about fun and games, but not her. Never had she been given that opportunity. She was bitter now, in spite of her young age, and she would never grow out of it.

The blue-eyed child, with his blissful ignorance, had everything she wished for. Lillith had seen death's emptiness in her mother's eyes as life was being drained from her. She was broken beyond repair, doomed to never properly function again. "Now, now," she murmured soothingly, mimicking the way Miska would have consoled her. "Don't cry." Mere centimeters separated their muzzles from touching, his puppy breath pushing forth with every exhale to escape his perky little snout. He was a cute little one, and for that reason only, she would do her best not to completely ruin his innocence. There was no explanation, nothing that could've given her a legitimate reason to inflict him with pain. But she had to. She needed someone to sympathize with her, to understand how ugly she felt on the inside. "Lean over, like this," she said, gently shoving the Clouded Tears puppy on his side.

To her surprise, the victim let himself be guided by her movements. "Close your eyes," This time, she didn't wait for him to oblige. Her weight had him pinned to the ground within seconds, her paw applying pressure on top of his fragile little skull. His head was stuck in a vice, between her claws and mother earth, and there was no way he'd make it out without suffering a few cuts and a massive headache. Wriggling ensued. "Stop it, stupid," she commanded, suddenly annoyed with his reaction. Although small, he could certainly put up a fight. Aquamarine orbs wandered to the nearest weapon on the floor, if it could be considered as such. Applying her whole weight onto the boy's smaller body, Lillith awkwardly reached for the squashed beetle with her teeth. Her jaw reopened seconds later, dropping the insect into the first hole she could find; his ear canal. She then rammed it in, using her sharp little claws to shove the foreign object further towards his brain.

The reason why he did as she wanted was because there was not really much else to do. She was a stupid girl, this was for certain, but nice voices made him warm up to her regardless. She was older and smarter and she had been taught to trust other, older wolves. He liked her better when she was being nice with her soothing noise. He would try not to cry. The little puppy sniffled loudly and tried to still the small hiccups. He still wished that mommy was here, but it was not very bad anymore now when the girl was okay. Still, she had crushed his toy. A set of new tears flooded his eyes as he thought of his forever lost toy, but he forced his lips together and did not cry more.

The boy did not really think much as she told him to lean over while gently pushing him over on his side. It was not until he was down on the ground he started to ponder her actions. How could stupid girl show him something if he was lying on the ground? He was about to tilt his head upwards to whine about the lack of fun when weight pushed him down and his head was completely pinned. A moment he kept still, but then he realized that this was neither fun nor comfortable. He whined and wriggled but got nowhere. She called him stupid! He started to cry again. ”Ueeeeeeee” the boy cried out pathetically, not wanting to play this game of hers.

Suddenly her stupid black face vanished out of view and he tried to howl for his mommy, but only a squeak escaped his form. Her face was back now and he felt something large be squished into his ear canal. Oh no it was beetle! A crunching noise sounded as she pummelled it deeper in and squished it even more. He wailed and screamed, because there was a squashed beetle in his ear and she would push it all into his head. He shook and jerked and give panic free reins. This was the saddest meanest day in the world.
